Verisign has decided to increase the price of the .COM

Verisign, the registrar of the .COM domain extension, on 1 September 2021 increased the wholesale price it charges registrars for .COM registrations and renewals. In September 2022, it will increase the price again. Expressing that .COM extension domain prices will continue to increase by 7% in the next year.

Domain registrant customers and domain resellers can take advantage of today's prices by renewing early. Domain owners who do not want to be affected by the prices and US Dollars currency that will increase exponentially every year, they can extend their domain name up to 10 years from the current price. Now would be a good time for domain owners to evaluate their portfolios and extend their domain names without delay.

Under new agreements between Verisign and ICANN, a non-profit organization responsible for coordinating domain names with the US government and worldwide, the price of registrations, transfers and renewals of .COM domains increased for the first time since 2012 on 1 September 2021.

With Verisign increasing the registrars fee for .COM domains. The $0.18 ICANN fee, taxes, and profits from domain name registrars will greatly affect domain prices, Domain name registrars will have to add these increases to the domain prices and sell to the end user in order to continue to make profits. For this reason, we recommend to domain owners who do not want to be affected too much due to the exchange rate increase, to extend their domain names up to 10 years at the current

It is allowed to increase the Verisign's .COM prices by up to 7% over the next 2 years and between 2026 to 2029.

COM Domain Names Are Increasing Every Year

As part of its new agreements with ICANN, Verisign is allowed to increase the wholesale price of registrars by 7% each year for .COM domains in 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023. After a two-year "freeze", Verisign will be able to increase prices again by 7% annually in the period 2026-2029 and then freeze it for another two years. If this cycle continues like this, in 10 years, .COM domains will cost around 70% more than the current price.
